PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Streetscape – 12th St. and Surrey St. project aims to enhance the safety, aesthetics, and functionality of 12th St. from Plum St. to Crockett St. and Surrey St. from Jefferson Blvd. to Baxter St. The 12th St. corridor will be upgraded with several features such as a sidewalk buffers, pedestrian bulb-outs, brick stamped crosswalks, tree plantings, and ADA ramps at each intersection. The Surrey St. corridor will also be upgraded with several features that include sidewalk buffers, landscaped median, pedestrian bulb-outs, bus shelters, bike racks, brick stamped crosswalks, tree plantings, and ADA ramps at each intersection. In conclusion, the Streetscape – 12th St. and Surrey St. improvements project will bring several benefits to the city including an increase in pedestrian connectivity, accessibility to local businesses, and create a more inviting environment for the surrounding community.

DRAINAGE AND GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE CONSIDERATIONS

The Surrey St. corridor will consist of a grass median and grass buffers on both sides of the roadway which will consist of new plants and trees while the 12th St. corridor will include grass buffers. These new plants and trees will provide numerous benefits such as reducing air pollution, providing shade, and improving the overall appearance of the corridor. These new vegetated buffers and median will also be able to help to mitigate stormwater runoff by allowing rainwater to be absorbed into the soil and plants rather than simply flowing into storm drains or other drainage systems. This can help to reduce the amount of water that needs to be managed by these systems and can also help to prevent flooding and erosion. In addition to their drainage benefits, vegetated buffers and medians can also serve as important components of green infrastructure.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS

Upon research, there have not been any significant considerations identified that must be reviewed and potentially addressed.

UTILITY CONSIDERATIONS

A preliminary assessment of the project area is provided for the utilities listed below. Potential utility relocation costs will be included in the project budget if the infrastructure is located within the utility’s own servitude.

RIGHT OF WAY CONSIDERATIONS

The project expects to stay in the existing right-of-way with potential construction servitudes for the replacement of driveways to make them ADA compliant for the new sidewalks.
